Jeunes Rives Neuchâtel
Competition
Client: Europan, City of Neuchâtel
Location: Neuchâtel CH
Year: 2009
In collaboration with: Mojdeh Aalaii, Daniel Lorca
When the debris of the city contour tunnel perforations where put in the lake at the Jeunes-Rives to create a park, the relationship between the city and the lake was fundamentally called into question. This park seems to have no reference to either. The project mainly proposes to recreate a strong link between the city and the lake and to develop the Jeunes-Rives as an urban park.
The reorganisation of the Jeunes-Rives is anchored in the orthogonal grid of the Beaux-Arts district, allowing optimal fluidity of the walking path. The link between the city and the lake is rethought in rhythmic sequences alternating events, natural and leisure areas. Thus, the physical presence of the Léopold Robert and Robert Comtesse Quays, built in freestone, is highlighted by the creation of an aquatic caesura. This nature reserve is fed by water from the lake; the fauna and flora of the lake find here a place to live and rest right in front of the city-centre. Reminiscent of the pre-existence lacustrian life on the shores of Lake Neuchâtel, the university complex is detached from the Quai Robert Comtesse by the aquatic caesura, from which it seems to emerge.
