About
Trained as an architect and visual artist, my work is driven by transdisciplinary research on space – how we experience, live with, think about, form and deform space. Acting on perceptions and understanding of space, I care about how theories, stories and representations of it materially constitute our world. Space means to us (humans) a corporal, biological, social, mathematical, metaphysical and symbolic condition. In other words, we live in a simultaneously physical, mental, emotional and imaginary world. Researching space means to consider these various aspects as constituting a paradoxical whole. My approach includes sculptural and graphic visualisations, architectural constructions, site-specific interventions, performances and writings. To work at the intersection of different representation techniques and conceptualisation methods seems to me the best way to deal with the complexity of space, and to push the limits of (its) perception forwards.
Biography
Antoine de Perrot, aka Onzgi, is a visual artist, architect and urban researcher. He has realized several artworks and architecture projects and was awarded prizes in both fields. Among others he was granted the Artistic Mention at the European Prize of Architecture Philippe Rotthier 2021, he won the competition for a permanent artwork for the Clinic Hirslanden in Zurich, realized the interior design of the dance, theater and music school DTM in Paris and created a series of unique furniture pieces such as the conference table in the arts section of Pro Helvetia in Zurich. Lately his focus is on art interventions in public space. Since 2018 he is a lecturer in art and architecture at the Academy of Architecture USI in Mendrisio, Switzerland, and is regularly invited by universities and institutions to lecture.
Onzgi, born in 1973 in Neuchâtel CH, grew up in Zurich. From an early age, he was fascinated by drawing. In the 1980’s he was among the leading actors in the then-mushrooming graffiti movement in Switzerland. After absolving a Matura in sciences, he studied painting and sculpture in Berlin 1994-96. During this time, he created costumes for the Berlin's Prater-Festival of the Volksbühne and acted as assistant stage designer in La Chartreuse de Villeneuve-lès-Avignon in France. 1996-2002 he studied architecture at the Academy of Architecture USI in Mendrisio. Along with his studies he collaborated with artists, architects and curators, among others Olivier Mosset, Juri Steiner and Peter Weber. He trained at Herzog & de Meuron in Basel, and worked for several years as project leader at Yves Lion Architectes Urbanistes in Paris. Onzgi founded his own studio in 2002, co-founded Transversal Territory in 2021.
